HangOut Chrome Extension
Last Updated: March 15, 2026
1. Introduction
HangOut ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that keeps Erie Insurance agent portal sessions alive by periodically refreshing open tabs. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
2. Data Collection
The Extension collects and stores the following data locally on your device:
- License key: The license key you enter to activate the Extension. This is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device.
- Window ID: The identifier of the Chrome window you select for tab monitoring. This is a temporary numeric value stored locally.
- License validation status: A boolean flag indicating whether your license has been validated.
3. Data Transmission
The Extension transmits the following data to our server:
- License key: Your license key is sent to our validation server (hosted on Google Cloud Functions) to verify that it is valid. This occurs when you first activate the Extension, when Chrome starts up, and when the Extension is installed or updated.
No other data is transmitted. Specifically:
- We do NOT collect browsing history
- We do NOT collect the content of any web pages
- We do NOT collect personally identifiable information beyond what is associated with your license key purchase
- We do NOT collect tab URLs, titles, or any page content
- We do NOT use cookies or tracking technologies
- We do NOT share any data with third parties
4. Tab Access
The Extension requires the "tabs" permission to:
- Detect which tabs in your selected Chrome window contain Erie Insurance portal pages (by checking if the tab URL contains "agentexchange.com" or "erieinsurance.com")
- Refresh those tabs periodically to maintain your session
Tab URLs are checked locally within the Extension and are never transmitted to any server.
5. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). No data is stored on our servers beyond what is necessary for license validation.
6. Data Retention
Your license key and activation status remain in Chrome's local storage until you either:
- Click "Deactivate license" in the Extension popup
- Uninstall the Extension
- Clear your browser data
7. Your Rights
You can delete all Extension data at any time by:
- Clicking "Deactivate license" in the Extension popup (removes license data)
- Uninstalling the Extension (removes all stored data)
8. Third-Party Services
The Extension uses Google Cloud Functions for license validation. Google's privacy policy applies to the infrastructure hosting our validation endpoint. No user data beyond the license key is processed by this service.
9. Children's Privacy
This Extension is designed for use by insurance professionals and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be noted by updating the "Last Updated" date above.
